Dear Readers (Which, at the time of publishing, amounts to one person and a tumblrbot):

I have decided to start up a therapeutic summer project. I am quite saddened by the fact that I read more at age 8 than I do now at age 18, though I still consider myself an avid reader. Compounded by the fact that I am a compulsive book buyer, my bookshelf is overrun with texts that I have been meaning to read, but have not yet gotten around to. Therefore, to motivate myself and to alleviate two semesters’ worth of college-antagonized stress (hence the “therapeutic” aspect), I created this project. I am going to read one book every week, and post a summary with my thoughts in the form of a review of sorts. Here are some rules I have laid out for myself:

1. For me, my week will start on Wednesdays and end on Tuesdays.

2. If a book is exceptionally long or particularly difficult to read (Moby Dick, Atlas Shrugged, Anna Karenina, anything by Dickens) I will either extend the time or read it in segments.

3. No Harry Potter or other children’s series I’ve committed to memory. (Children’s series I have never read are acceptable.)

4. Rereads are acceptable, but only for works I feel I read superficially the first time.

5. Works of both fiction and nonfiction are acceptable, as are works of “trash” literature and commonly accepted masterpieces alike.

6. I will keep a running tab of books I would like to read that are on my shelf, as well as recommendations that are sent in (presuming I get any).

7. I will post any quotes from books that I find particularly enjoyable/amusing/pithy/remarkable/noteworthy. So you will see more than one post from me a week! (And that way, you will know I’m actually reading it.)

Well, that’s that…here goes nothing!
